The Environmental Biosecurity Advisory Group (EBAG) met on 19 June 2026. The session was chaired by the newly appointed Australian Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer (ACEBO), Dr Gabrielle Vivian‑Smith. Gabrielle introduced herself to members and outlined priority programs underway within the Office of the Chief Environmental Biosecurity Officer.
A key item on the agenda was an update from the National Biosecurity Reform Program. Members were briefed on the reform program and how national arrangements can remain fit‑for‑purpose in a rapidly evolving risk environment.
DAFF also provided updates on the 2026 Environmental Biosecurity Roundtable, the recent Rabbit Roundtable and the ongoing Carp Biological Control Program.
During the member update session, EBAG representatives shared a wide range of work underway across the environmental biosecurity sector. Highlights included progress on the SOS Wild Birds app and the Future Proofing Rabbit Biocontrol – RHDV Accelerator Phase 1 project. Members also noted preparations for the Australasian Weeds Conference, to be held in August in New Zealand.
We thank members for their continued engagement and collaboration. The next EBAG meeting will be scheduled for late 2026.
