Proof of concept trial of new importer supply chain arrangements

The expression of interest process to participate in the trial is now closed.

Selection process and outcome

The department received a lot of interest from importers across a range of industry sectors and all applications are currently being assessed by an independent panel based on:

  • the capacity and capability of the entity to engage in and maximise the effectiveness of the pilots;
  • the biosecurity compliance track record of the entity; and
  • preference for the pilots to represent a cross-section of importing sectors and businesses.

A single entity will be selected for each pilot.

It is anticipated that all applicants will be advised of the outcome of their applications by the middle of June 2021

Next steps

Next steps will involve the co-design and implementation of temporary arrangements for the conduct of each pilot, noting these arrangements will run in parallel with existing biosecurity controls.

It is envisaged the pilots will run for between 3 to 6 months, depending on commencement timeframes, with the first starting in July 2021. Future updates will be provided once the pilots are underway.
