Feb 2009 James Commodity Exports AQIS is investigating the cause of the mortalities. The investigation is not yet complete and is being hampered because of recent change to the management of the company.

AQIS placed the following additional requirements on the exporter for a subsequent consignment on the same vessel.
  • Cattle for export must be resident for 3 clear days in the registered premises immediately prior to the export.
  • The cattle must be provided with 10 per cent additional space above the requirements of the ASEL.
  • In addition to the accredited stockman required by ASEL, an AQIS accredited veterinarian is required to travel with, and report on the voyage.
There has been one consignment since the reportable incident with an acceptable outcome. No more consignments are expected within the foreseeable future.
March 2009 Australian Rural Exports AQIS is investigating the cause of mortalities. The investigation is not yet complete. AQIS has not approved any subsequent consignments of dairy cattle to the Middle East by sea on lang haul voyages (greater than or equal to ten days) for this exporter.
