79-2017 - Commencement of the Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) in Lao PDR on 1 September 2017

24 August 2017

Who does this notice affect?

Lao methyl bromide treatment providers and importers of goods treated with methyl bromide in Lao PDR.

What has changed?

AFAS in Lao PDR will officially commence on 1 September 2017. Methyl bromide fumigation certificates from Lao PDR issued on or after this date will only be accepted if they are issued by registered AFAS treatment providers. The Lao PDR AFAS Methyl Bromide Treatment Providers List is available on the department’s website.

Methyl bromide fumigation certificates issued prior to 1 September 2017 will remain acceptable provided they meet the existing requirements.

Importers must ensure all methyl bromide treatments conducted in Lao PDR on or after 1 September 2017 are conducted by a methyl bromide treatment provider that is listed as acceptable on the Lao PDR AFAS Methyl Bromide Treatment Providers List.
