199-2023: Changes to recycling of select materials for international cruise ships

Who does this notice affect?

All international Cruise Vessels, vessel agents, port operators and waste providers operating under the department’s Approved Arrangement.

What has changed?

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) is taking immediate action to cease the recycling of specified materials that are being unloaded off international cruise vessels due to increased biosecurity risks to Australia.

Only the following recyclable materials can continue to be offloaded for recycling treatment:

Who does this notice affect?

Importers of laboratory goods and their brokers.

What has changed?

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) recently completed a review of the biosecurity risks to Australia and the financial implications for industry, related to an increase in the permit validity period for select laboratory goods and changes to how assessment fees for these permits are charged.

197-2023: Service Disruption: Sunday 24 September 2023 - BICON

Who does this notice affect?

All clients required to use the department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system during this planned maintenance period.

Information

Due to scheduled infrastructure maintenance, BICON users may experience several intermittent outages from 16:00 to 23:59 Sunday 24 September 2023 (AEST).

Action

Users are advised to frequently save any in-progress permit applications during this maintenance period.

Who does this notice affect?

All importers and customs brokers who will be required to lodge imported cargo documentation to the department for biosecurity assessment during this planned maintenance period.

Information

To support system maintenance, the Cargo Online Lodgement System (COLS) will be unavailable from 23:00 to 23:59 Thursday 21 September 2023 (AEST).

Action

Clients are advised to await the completion of this maintenance period before attempting to access this service.

All shipping agents or operators of maritime conveyances who will be required to report pre-arrival information during this planned maintenance period.

All clients who will be required to make an online payment during this planned maintenance period.
