Who does this notice affect?

Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries—including vessel masters, freight forwarders, treatment providers, Biosecurity Industry Participants, importers, customs brokers and principal agents—associated with shipping or importing goods that are subject to increased intervention during the 2022-23 BMSB risk season, and vessels on 2022-23 BMSB season Vessel Seasonal Pest Scheme (VSPS).

Animal Biosecurity Advice 2022-A07 - Heat treatment as a risk management measure for fish and fish products for use as pet food and stockfeed

From 31 October 2022, new import conditions will apply for fish and fish products imported into Australia for use as pet food and stockfeed.

Following public consultation on a review of a prescribed heat treatment and a further review of scientific information, the department will be implementing the following measures:

Animal Biosecurity Advice 2022-A08 - Update to the import conditions for dogs from approved countries following establishment of Ehrlichia canis in Australia

Ehrlichia canis has been detected in Australia and is now considered to be established. Further information about ehrlichiosis in dogs and the animal health situation in Australia can be found on the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s website.

Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries, that have been shipped between 1 September 2022 and 30 April 2023 (inclusive).
