250-2021: Ehrlichiosis in dogs intended for import to Australia

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is for all pet transport companies and importers of dogs to Australia.

What has changed?

Ehrlichiosis is a disease that affects dogs and is caused by a bacteria called Ehrlichia canis (E. canis). The disease is spread through infected ticks. The brown dog tick, which is present in Australia, is the main carrier of the disease.

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to all vessel masters and shipping agents who represent international commercial and non-commercial vessels for the purposes of Australian biosecurity clearance.

What has changed?

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) will commence its annual heightened vessel surveillance window for managing the risks posed by Asian Gypsy Moth (AGM) on vessels from 1 January 2022.

Changes to the farmed prawns levy and charge rate – effective 1 January 2022

Notice issued: 17 December 2021

From 1 January 2022, the total levy and charge rate for farmed prawns will be set at 6.65 cents per kilogram. This is due to the reactivation of the white spot disease repayment (WSDR) component of the farmed prawns levy and charge which will be set at 3.01 cents per kilogram.

Changes to the levy and charge rates are shown in the table below:
