Ranger Capability Building Grants Program

Indigenous rangers are critical to Australia’s ability to maintain an early detection system for exotic pests and diseases in remote coastal areas across the north. Increasing over time, current services provided by rangers include participating in animal, plant and aquatic health surveys, insect trapping/surveillance, plant host mapping, collection and destruction of biosecurity risk material and biosecurity awareness activities in remote communities, utilising their unique skills and abilities.

2021-50: Horticulture – Leafminer detection in Australia affecting exports to New Zealand

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry of new export requirements for affected horticulture commodities to New Zealand (NZ) following the detection of Serpentine leafminer (Liriomyza huidobrensis) and American serpentine leafminer (Liriomyza trifolii) in Australia. The new requirements will come into effect on 11 October 2021.

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise that we have adjusted the proposed changes to qualification requirements for marine surveyors to be accredited under the Accredited Grain Survey Assurance (AGSA) scheme proposed to commence in December 2021.

Fisheries

These management processes implement controls, such as limits on catch or effort levels, and regulations of fishing methods to manage Australia’s fisheries in a sustainable way.

Biosecurity is everyone’s responsibility. Looking out for unusual pests, weeds or diseases can help. Our environment and agriculture rely on our biosecurity system to be strong and resilient to safeguard our economy, cultural heritage and way of life from exotic species.

Export

​​​​​​Around two-thirds of Australia’s agricultural products are exported. The department provides export controls and assistance on exporting goods from Australia.
