Dairy Industry Code

The Dairy Industry Code (the Dairy Code) is a mandatory industry code under section 51AE of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA). The Dairy Code came into effect on 1 January 2020.

The Dairy Code provides a fairer process for negotiating contractual arrangements between dairy farmers and dairy processors. It improves the balance in bargaining power between dairy farmers and processors. The Dairy Code also includes dispute resolution and mediation processes.

Changes to the farmed prawns and charge rate – Effective from 1 January 2020

From 1 January 2020, a white spot disease repayment (WSDR) component at a rate of 3.01 cents per kilogram will be introduced to the farmed prawns levy and charge. This will take effect in your quarterly return, due 28 April 2020. For people submitting annual returns, any prawns sold by a producer, used by the producer in the production of other goods, delivered to a person other than for storage, or exportedfrom 1 January will attract the new levy or charge.

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to importers (and their customs brokers) of Brassica rapa, Raphanus sativus and Eruca vesicaria seed for sowing from all countries.

What has changed?

The purpose of this notification is to advise stakeholders that Phase 1 of the revised import conditions for Brassica rapa, Eruca vesicaria and Raphanus sativus seed for sowing have commenced.

Changes to the citrus levy and charge rate – Effective from 1 January 2020

From 1 January 2020, the Emergency Plant Pest Response (EPPR) component of the citrus levy and charge, currently set at nil, will increase to $1.05 per tonne or 2.1 cents per 20 kg box. This will take effect in your quarterly return, due 28 April 2020. For people submitting annual returns, any citrus used by the producer in the production of other goods, sold by a producer or that is exported from 1 January will attract the new levy or charge.
