Regional Forests Agreements
The South East Queensland Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) will be a 20-year agreement between Queensland and the Commonwealth focussed primarily on how the region's public native forests can best be used and managed.
The RFA process emerged from the 1992 National Forest Policy Statement, under which the Commonwealth and all States and Territories agreed to work together towards a shared vision for Australia's forests.
Forests and People - the Social Assessment
How important are forests to the people of South East Queensland and the communities they live in? This is the question the Social Assessment set out to answer in the biggest project of its kind for the region.
The Social Assessment included four major projects:
Jobs and Forest Industries
The forests of South-East Queensland support a range of forest-based industries including recreation, ecotourism, timber production and processing, grazing, bee keeping, mining and flora collection.

Five–yearly Review of NSW’s RFAs
An important element of each of the NSW RFAs is the requirement for a five–yearly review of the performance of the RFAs.
New South Wales Southern Regional Forest Agreement
The Southern Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) is one of three RFAs in New South Wales. The Australian and New South Wales governments signed the Southern RFA on 24 April 2001.
The Southern RFA was varied on 28 November 2018 with an extension until 26 August 2039, as it has proven to be a strong and effective framework for the sustainable management of Southern RFA region’s forests. The extension was formalised following assessment, public consultation and independent review.
