As of 3 March 2025, Australia’s illegal logging laws have changed. Importantly, this includes changes to due diligence requirements for importers and processors of regulated timber and timber products.
If you export wood, pulp or paper products to Australia, you are not directly regulated under Australia’s illegal logging laws. All legal obligations sit with the businesses importing the regulated timber products into Australia.

We have developed the following optional guidance material to help you understand and meet your due diligence requirements under Australia’s illegal logging laws.
It is a crime to import illegally logged timber into Australia under our illegal logging laws. Certain wood, pulp and paper products are listed in section 5 of the Illegal Logging Prohibition Rules 2024 (Rules) and are considered ‘regulated’. When importing these products, you must conduct due diligence unless they are exempt (see below).
