Commonwealth, state, and territory agriculture ministers met virtually on Friday 1 November 2024. It was the first meeting chaired by Minister Julie Collins, appointed to the position of Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry in July 2024, and it was the third and final meeting for the year. The Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator the Hon Anthony Chisholm also attended.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) will commence its annual heightened surveillance regime for managing the risks posed by Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) beetles (Arhopalus ferus) on vessels departing from New Zealand from 00:01 hours (NZST) on Friday 1 November 2024 and is expected to end at 23:59 hours (NZST) on Wednesday 30 April 2025.

The unplanned outage to the telephony services at the department’s Western Australia (WA) regional office has been resolved.
Clients are now able to contact the department’s WA regional office as normal, and should not experience any further unexpected call dropouts.
The National Management Group (NMG) met on 30 September 2024 to ensure situational awareness and consider additional national support in managing the evolving tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) incursion in South Australia.
National diagnostic capacity and resourcing support will continue to be a national priority in controlling the virus while the technical and economic analyses to support eradication attempts are finalised.
As part of the National Carp Control Plan, the Australian Government is investigating the feasibility of the carp virus Cyprinid herpesvirus 3, for use as a biological control agent to control common carp populations in Australian waterways.
