The renewed AAWS

What are we delivering, and why is it important for animal welfare in Australia?

What are we delivering?

The government is strengthening a national approach to animal welfare by investing $5 million over 4 years (2023-2027) to renew the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS).

The Australian Government is working closely with states and territories to take a joint leadership approach to renewing the AAWS.

National Statement on Animal Welfare

The National Statement on Animal Welfare (national statement) reflects the shared commitment by Australian, state and territory Agriculture Ministers to jointly lead the renewal of the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS).

The national statement identifies opportunities for sustainable improvements for Australia’s animal welfare system and sets the vision for the renewal of the AAWS. It signals to Australians and international trading partners that national collaboration on animal welfare priorities is a shared goal of all governments.
