Compliance Investigation Report 22: Cattle Exported to Mauritius
Summary
On 23 October 2013, the Department of Agriculture received a report from Animals Australia that Australian cattle exported to Mauritius under Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS) requirements had been moved to locations outside of the approved supply chain and slaughtered in a manner not compliant with OIE animal welfare recommendations.

We investigate all alleged non-compliance with the Exporter Supply Chain Assurance System (ESCAS).
We take all allegations seriously.
Where necessary, the department acts immediately to address animal welfare issues.
Transhipping through Australia
Transhipping refers to the movement of goods through Australia from one overseas port to another. Australian ports (air or sea) are used to facilitate the discharge and re-loading of these goods.
