The department has recently been notified by the National Fire Ant Eradication Program that a treatment product used to treat red imported fire ants on operations certified for export under the National Standard for Organic and Bio-Dynamic Produce contains two non-viable ingredients derived from genetically modified plants.
Treatment of organic and bio-dynamic operations has been temporarily halted by the National Fire Ant Eradication Program while it seeks suitable alternative treatment products. Treatment of non-organic operations is continuing.
