Main site content
This report provides an update of policy and program developments in rural R&D and innovation.
Australia’s research and development corporations (RDCs) help drive agricultural innovation. They allow the Australian Government and primary producers to co-invest in strategic, collaborative and targeted research and development (R&D). This improves the profitability, productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of Australia's agricultural, fishing and forestry industries.

This document is designed to assist importers with the submission of information/applications for the import of fertile hatching eggs (poultry).
The following table summarises the timeframes for submission of forms and applications. Information regarding the details of these is not covered in this document. Details are available on the department’s website and/or via the relevant contacts listed below.
Fertile bird eggs can currently be imported into Australia from selected department approved countries only. To bring fertile eggs to Australia, they must meet all of the department's import conditions prior to export.
The Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON) provides the import conditions for all permitted fertile egg imports.
Animals coming into Australia must spend time at specially equipped biosecurity stations to ensure they are free of disease before being released. Fees are charged by the biosecurity station for housing and maintaining your animal whilst undergoing a period of post entry quarantine.
Australia's biosecurity policy is based on the assessment and management of pest and disease risk to human, animal and plant health and the environment. We manage the risk associated with imported products in various ways.
Not all live animals and reproductive materials are permitted to be imported into Australia; the pest or disease risks associated with their importation may be considered too great.
The Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON) provides the import conditions for all permitted live animal and reproductive material imports.
