We regulate the biosecurity import conditions for goods allowed into Australia. The conditions relating to your goods may vary depending on the country of export or origin of the goods.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) uses postcode classifications to manage the risks associated with imported sea containers. Sea containers can inadvertently carry a range of contaminants which could introduce exotic pests and diseases into our environment.
Improving access to imported food safety requirements
Imported food safety requirements are now included in the Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON).
From 7 October 2025, Ship or Aircraft Stores and Carnet will be lodged via the Cargo Online Lodgement System (COLS).
Biosecurity Industry Participant's (BIP's) who submit commercial goods - Full Import Declaration (FID’s) will also see a visual change from 7 October 2025 as two new consignment import selections will be available in addition to FID’s being; ‘Temporary Importation – Carnet’ and ‘Transhipment of Ship or Aircraft Stores’.
