Agricultural innovation policy

Between 2022 and 2024, ABARES worked with CSIRO and a group of experts to find better ways to build skills and connections that support agricultural innovation policy. The aim was to understand how to build more confidence in Australia’s agricultural innovation system so it can be managed well into the future.

Future readiness

The project looked at how Australia’s agrifood innovation system could be better prepared to deal with new sustainability and social inclusion challenges. It used lessons from both Australia and overseas, along with expert advice, to identify practical, evidence-based ways to strengthen Australia’s innovation policy.

Leadership in Monitoring & Evaluation

ABARES worked with a small group of experts to create a framework for monitoring and evaluating government investment in research, development and extension (RD&E). This framework considers not only productivity goals, but also the wider aims of the agricultural innovation system and how it fits within Australia’s national innovation system.
