Summary: Chris discussed what MALDI-ToF is, the benefits it has brought to the department, and how the technology works. He also described what kind of samples can be analysed with the technology, and how the team have improved upon the standard approach of using it to make the technology a more effective and easily used diagnostic tool for plant pests. He also discussed some of the different challenges that remain and provided an overview of what is being done to expand the scope of this technology’s diagnostic capability in the plant pest diagnostic space. Dominie discussed her experiences using MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry and the highs and lows associated with using the technology in identifying bacteria.
