Australian agriculture promoted at Indian showcase

A delegation of Australian agricultural representatives was in New Delhi last week fostering deeper ties with local food processors and promoting complementary links at a showcase of India’s food processing sector.

World Food India (WFI) promotes India’s booming food processing and manufacturing industries, which Australia is well placed to support with the supply of high-quality inputs.

Representatives from Australia’s grain, red meat, nut and wine sectors, together with departmental staff, attended the third instalment of WFI to demonstrate our country’s ability to provide India with inputs crucial to its food manufacturing industry.

Deputy Secretary Trade and Regulation Tina Hutchison said the delegation would help grow the mutually beneficial trade relationship between Australia and India.

“Australia can fill gaps in India’s domestic production to ensure year-round processing can occur,” Ms Hutchison said.

"We recognise the great potential of India’s diverse food processing sector and are well placed to support it with consistent production and supply of counter-seasonal produce.

"The delegation reflects our strong agricultural trading relationship, which is based on collaborative and cooperative efforts and a commitment to grow two-way trade.

“Australian industry is keen to work with Indian producers and processors to deepen collaboration because our agricultural exports complement India’s domestic agricultural sector.

“Our producers are focussed on exporting high-value products and providing quality inputs for India’s food processing and re-export industries.”
