A public consultation is underway that will help shape a new national food security strategy.
The Australian Government committed $3.5 million in the 2025–26 Budget to develop Feeding Australia: A National Food Security Strategy. The strategy aims to boost the productivity, resilience and security of our food system.
We are seeking feedback through our Have Your Say platform on a discussion paper to inform the strategy’s guiding principles and priority areas.
Whether you're in agriculture, logistics, policy, research, or part of the wider food sector, your insights are vital to boosting the productivity, resilience and security of our national food system.
Submissions close at 5:00pm (AEST) on 24 September 2025.
A new skills-based National Food Council is also being established to advise government on the development of the strategy.
An expression of interest process is open to fill positions on the council. Individuals from across Australia’s food system are encouraged to apply, with applications due to close on 10 September.
Paul Denny, Assistant Secretary Food Policy said, “This an opportunity for the community and our stakeholders to work with government to set a long-term vision for Australia’s Food Security. There are many different perspectives on food security; we encourage everybody to get involved and look forward to hearing your views”.
