Outbreaks of high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI), or bird flu, are on the rise globally. HPAI is a highly contagious disease that affect poultry and birds, and it can spread to other species, including humans. Australia is currently free of HPAI, however we need to remain vigilant for any signs of the disease, particularly in northern Australia.
The Northern Australia Biosecurity Strategy (NABS) and the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy (NAQS) have developed an animation to increase awareness of the disease and the importance of reporting any increasing number of bird deaths.
Early detection is important in managing any animal disease and our animation targets a range of vital stakeholders, including farmers, livestock industries and First Nations people in northern Australia.

- Avoid contact with sick or dead birds
