Access images

You can save a low resolution image directly from the internet. To use, you must follow all conditions of use.

You can request to use a high resolution copy from us. Let us know the name and type of publication it will appear in (i.e. web or print).

Email these details and the barcode number to ProductionServices@environment.gov.au

Conditions of use

We permit image use on a case-by-case basis. Some images may be subject to third-party copyright restrictions.

  • Images are to be used for a defined purpose, and are available for single time use only.
  • All uses must acknowledge the photographer and the department.
  • Images are provided via email.
  • You must seek our permission which will be granted at our discretion.

You must also make sure you check and meet all copyright conditions.

Copyright owner

When using an image, you must credit the image creator and owner.

There are 4 possible entries for the owner of the copyright on an image.

Department

Copyright belongs to our department. You must acknowledge the department.

Creator

Copyright belongs to the creator (photographer, artist). You must acknowledge both the department and the creator.

Shared (creator and department)

Copyright is shared between the creator and department. You must acknowledge both the department and the creator.

Other

Copyright belongs to someone other than the department or the creator. You must check and follow any copyright conditions before using these images.

Copyright conditions

Check the restrictions placed on the image by the copyright owner. Follow these instructions to use the image.

Credit creator

To use these images the creator must be credited in the publication or presentation. For example, Photograph of XXX, by Photographer's name.

No restrictions

There are no restrictions on the department's use of these images. Please note third-party restrictions may still apply.

Print only

These images can be used only for printed publications, not for web sites.

Web only

These images can only be used on web sites, not in printed material.

Copyright comments

Some images may have extra copyright information you must follow before you can use the image.
