The WA Roadmap to 2028 (the Roadmap), published on The Future Flock website, provides a clear pathway to support the Western Australian sheep industry to strengthen and grow ahead of the phase out of live sheep exports by sea by 1 May 2028.
The industry led, government enabled WA medium-long term sheep industry strategy - the Roadmap - responds directly to supply chain stakeholder calls for a credible plan to inform industry investment and decision making.
Underpinned by economic modelling and extensive engagement, it identifies both challenges and opportunities, highlighting the potential for a coordinated, value-driven transition, that can improve producer incomes and across the supply chain.
The vision statement for the sheep industry in 2028 is:
A confident, adaptable WA Sheep industry – supporting people across a profitable supply chain to meet changing markets, strengthened by innovation, science and technology.
Three core goals form the basis of the Roadmap to 2028:
- The whole supply chain operating efficiently to optimise market value and profitability
- Informed, confident decision-making across the industry
- A vibrant, positive and collaborative industry culture
10 strategies and 27 potential initiatives have been identified and aligned to the goals. These will help guide industry investment and collaboration.
The government is currently considering the allocation of the $5 million Roadmap Implementation Fund.
The WA Roadmap to 2028 complements the national strategy (The Future Flock) and is available on The Future Flock website.
