Overview
On 13 July 2023, the National Agricultural Traceability Strategy 2023 to 2033 (the strategy) was launched by Australian Agriculture Ministers. It aims to provide a nationally coordinated approach to enhancing traceability for biosecurity, trade, food safety and other outcomes.
The strategy was co-designed by Australian government and industry stakeholders. It will support modernising and further strengthening Australia’s tracking and tracing capabilities.

- 7 – Improve the integrity of animal health systems.
Activity alignment:
- 7.2 – Implement mechanisms to streamline or automate animal and animal product traceability data across agreed industries and make this accessible to all supply chain participants.
Project updates
The implementation plan was launched in November 2024. This will track and report on measures to demonstrate progress against the strategy’s objectives.
The implementation plan provides guidance on key activities and timeframes to address priority areas for action by 2028.
