Overview
Australia’s livestock traceability arrangements are vital to the ongoing health and success of our agricultural sector. The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) plays an important role in capturing livestock movement information for lifetime traceability. This assists governments and industry to respond to animal disease outbreaks or food safety incidents.
The NLIS Database Uplift is a whole-of-system project benefitting Australia’s red meat and livestock industries. The Australian Government awarded $22.5 million in grant funding to the project.
The project is being delivered by Integrity Systems Company (ISC). It will provide:
- a contemporary, fit-for-purpose national livestock traceability platform that helps to meet current and future biosecurity and market access requirements.
- a modernised data capture, storage, and distribution platform for tracking livestock, including improved usability, functionality (including capacity), and reporting and analytics capabilities.
- an adaptive platform that can accommodate additional data inputs from other systems to assist in demonstrating emerging credentials such as sustainability and animal welfare.
