Timber Fibre Strategy

The Strategic Forest and Renewable Materials Partnership was tasked with leading the development of a Timber Fibre Strategy.

The Partnership provided its Timber Fibre Strategy to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry on 7 March 2025.

The Strategy is advice to the Australian Government from the forestry industry. While it outlines a vision and suggests a range of actions, it is not Australian Government policy.

The Strategy identifies opportunities for the industry to make a greater contribution to achieving national goals, particularly improving carbon and housing construction outcomes. It also highlights the need to encourage innovation and investment across the sector, including in its workforce, to build prosperous and strong communities and regions.

The Strategy was prepared for the Partnership by The Fifth Estate and is informed by extensive consideration by the Partnership and across industry. Consultation included the Forestry Industry Roundtable hosted by the Partnership on 5 December 2024, in Hobart. This event gave leaders from forest and wood product industries, workplaces and state and territory governments the opportunity to discuss challenges and opportunities prior to the Strategy being finalised.
