2024-75: Horticulture – Update to packhouse grower supplier model instructional material

20 December 2024

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry and accredited property applicants of changes to instructional material for the packhouse grower supplier model (the model).

Summary of changes and key points

  • The following instructional material has been updated and published on the Plant Export Operations Manual:
    • Exports process instruction: Management of horticulture export accredited properties operating under the packhouse grower supplier model
    • Export process instruction: Management of horticulture accredited properties
    • Exports reference: Packhouse management of Growers Template
    • Exports reference: Performance standards for the packhouse grower supplier model.
  • Instructional material has been updated to provide clarification and information on:
    • expansion of eligible horticulture goods to protocol markets participating in the model to include
      • citrus
      • apples and pears
      • kiwi fruit
      • strawberries
      • avocados (Western Australia only)
      • summerfruit
      • cherries
      • table grapes
    • responsibilities associated with accredited properties
    • details that packhouse applicants must provide, including examples of suitable evidence.

Background

The packhouse grower supplier model is a voluntary, alternative assurance model for gaining regulatory assurance that horticulture export accredited property farms are compliant with trading partner and export regulatory requirements.

The model is considered an additional export function of an accredited property packhouse. Eligible packhouses have the option to apply the additional export function to their accreditation.

Prior to the commencement of each season an Industry Advice Notice (IAN) will be published to advise when applications for the model are open. The IAN will specify the method to submit the application and the application period.

Industry responsibilities

  • Familiarise yourself with the updated versions of the instructional material.
  • For further details regarding model eligibility, the application process and requirements refer to the Exports process instruction: Management of horticulture export accredited properties operating under the packhouse grower supplier model.
