Animal biosecurity risks of fresh beef and beef products derived from bovines born and raised in Canada or Mexico and legally imported and slaughtered in the United States

We have completed a draft report as an addendum to the beef review for fresh beef and beef products from the United States including sourced from cattle imported from Canada or Mexico.

Steps to complete this risk analysis

When we do a risk analysis, we:

  • start the risk analysis by reviewing the evidence on pests and diseases of concern
  • assess and analyse biosecurity risks
  • develop proposed risk management measures
  • consult the public on the draft report and then review comments
  • publish the final report
  • develop import conditions
  • publish import conditions in our Biosecurity Import Conditions System (BICON).

About the draft report

We have published a draft report for the review of fresh beef and beef products from the United States including sourced from cattle imported from Canada or Mexico. The draft report proposes that the current United States Department of Agriculture protocols for the import of bovines from Canada and Mexico apply control measures which can address Australia’s biosecurity concerns.

This draft report should be read in conjunction with the beef review.
