This Biosecurity Advice advises stakeholders of the formal commencement of a review to consider appropriate risk management measures for the importation of cooked duck meat from Thailand into Australia.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources will prepare a draft report, which will be issued for stakeholder comment.
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources has commenced a review for market access for cooked duck meat for human consumption from Thailand into Australia.
A preliminary hazard identification for cooked duck meat from Thailand has been undertaken and the majority of potential biosecurity diseases of concern identified are the same as, or similar to, biosecurity diseases for the Generic Import Risk Analysis Report for Chicken Meat (2008) for which import policy exists. Therefore, a review of existing policy, with some additional considerations relevant to ducks that were not considered in the Generic Import Risk Analysis Report for Chicken Meat (2008) will be progressed.
The next step is to prepare and issue a draft report to provide stakeholders the opportunity to comment on the analysis. A Biosecurity Advice will be issued to announce that the draft report has been placed on the department’s website and to invite comments. Following the consultation period, the department will consider all comments in preparing a final report.
