This Animal Biosecurity Advice notice announces the start of a Import Risk Analysis (BIRA) natural casings for human consumption.
We invite you to comment on the issues paper by 5 pm (AEST) Monday, 10 August 2026.
A Notice of Intention has now been released, signifying the start of the BIRA process. This BIRA will consider scientific information, supply chain arrangements, manufacturing processes and alignment with international standards.
This issues paper and more information about the BIRA process are available on our website.
We invite feedback on the issues in the paper and any scientific or technical information that the Department should consider whilst undertaking this BIRA.
We will consider all stakeholder comments received when preparing the draft report.
Submissions should be submitted through the Have your say page.
The 30-day consultation period will conclude at 5 pm (AEST) Monday, 10 August 2026.
