2015-05 - Expression of Interest – Seafood Export Consultative Committee Membership

Date of notice: 10/09/2015
Date of effect: 10/09/2015

This notice applies to export registered vessels, fish establishments, individuals and organisations representing the export seafood industry.

Purpose

As of May 2016, membership of the Seafood Export Consultative Committee (SECC) is due for renewal.

SECC is the principal advisory and liaison forum for the Department of Agriculture, (the department) to consult with the export seafood industry on technical and administrative matters in relation to the export of fish and fish products.

The department, on behalf of the Chair of the committee, is seeking nomination of suitably qualified individuals able to effectively represent their sector/organisation about exports on the SECC. Nominees will then be contacted by the department and invited to submit and expression of interest.

As SECC membership is skills-based, when making a nomination, please note members must be able to demonstrate a high level of technical competence and/or have broad industry expertise and collectively represent the sector throughout the export supply chain.

SECC members have a term of three years and there are two face to face meetings in Canberra per year.  Any costs associated with SECC membership, such as travel, accommodation and meals are to be borne by members and as such, they may seek your financial support in attending these meetings as your nomination.

A selection panel will assess expressions of interest submitted on the basis of:

  • the range of expertise and knowledge and ability to represent the wider export industry
  • the geographical range from which seafood is exported
  • the need for other expertise and knowledge that would be useful to the committee, such as training or research
  • the capacity and capability to report back to industry
  • experience in issues affecting exports of fish and fish products

Please e-mail your nomination to Dairy Egg Fish by 1 October 2015 and please also let the individual know you have nominated them.

Expressions of interest will be required to address the points above and contain a current resume.

It is anticipated that the panel considering the applications will advise successful applicants of their appointment in time for the SECC meeting in May 2016.
