The government has announced a transition package of $139.7 million for the phase out of live sheep exports by sea.
The Australian Government is providing a further $32.7 million to the transition assistance package for the phase out of live sheep exports by sea, bringing the overall package to $139.7 million.
The Australian sheep meat industry has been experiencing consistent growth in recent years, which is expected to continue into 2025.
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) will continue to work to regulate the welfare of sheep exported live by sea until the trade ends on 1 May 2028.
