Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is a recognised phytosanitary procedure for pest management under the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs). It is a sterilisation technique that can provide effective control of target insect populations such as fruit flies.

Due to favourable crop growing conditions over the past year, food sources for mice are readily available. Access to food may result in a rapid growth of mouse populations and mouse infestations on farms. Be prepared to bait as you sow this year’s crops if mice are active in your paddocks.
Continue to monitor crops after sowing and if mice are still present. Late winter to early spring is the best time to start, before populations grow rapidly in the warmer months.

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry of the in-transit cold treatment (ITCT) certification requirements for the export of fresh fruits to the Philippines under the Specific Commodity Understanding 2 conditions for export of fruit fly host fruits from Australia to the Philippines (SCU2) protocol.
Northern Australia’s vast, sparsely populated 10,000-kilometre coastline is the frontline for many high-risk animal and plant pests and diseases.
Biosecurity risks can reach Australia through the movement of people and goods by sea and air, through traditional visits between Papua New Guinea and Torres Strait, and by natural pathways such as wind, tide and animal migration. Some serious pests and diseases are being managed in Torres Strait that have not reached the Australian mainland.

To become an approved manufacturer of official marks with the department, you will need to complete an EX91 ‘Application for Approval to Manufacture Official Marks and Official Marking Devices’ form and produce a Code of Practice that details how you will meet the specific requirements to produce these marks.
