From 1 July 2022 the rate of forest growers levies on logs that are produced in Australia will increase. Additionally, from this date producers who produce less than 20,000 cubic metres of leviable logs in a levy year will be exempt from the forest growers levy. These legislative changes will be made by the Primary Industries (Excise) Levies Amendment (Forest Growers Levies) Regulations 2022.

Importers of mushrooms and truffles for human consumption and for propagation.
The department has commenced a review of import policy for mushrooms for human consumption and spawn, cultures, and fruiting bodies for propagation. This review will consider:

All clients attempting to submit permit applications and access invoices using the Department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system during this planned outage.
All clients who will be required to make an online payment during this planned outage.
All importers and customs brokers who will be required to lodge imported cargo documentation to the department for biosecurity assessment during this planned outage.

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry that applications are now open for the accreditation of farms and packhouses to export persimmons to Thailand in 2023.
In partnership with Charles Sturt University the Biosecurity Training Centre delivers professional training and specialised programs for the biosecurity workforce. We are committed to building a prepared, skilled, capable, and agile workforce that strengthens our biosecurity system.
The centre opened in July 2022, and we have been providing:

Approved arrangements operators, customs brokers, importers, manned depots*, and freight forwarders wishing to book and manage requests for import inspections using the Biosecurity Portal in NSW, QLD, WA, SA, NT and ACT.
The Portal is planned to be launched in Victoria in late July. An Import Industry Advice Notice will be issued ahead of time to confirm details.
