Imported live plants can carry exotic pests and diseases that if introduced, could have devastating consequences for our agriculture, environment and economy.
We set import conditions to manage these pest and disease risks. We determine these conditions based on whether the imported plant material are:
Commonwealth Biosecurity 2030, first published in 2021, has been refreshed to better align with the current strategic and operating environment for the department. Now titled DAFF Biosecurity 2030 Roadmap (the Roadmap), it acknowledges the pivotal role the department plays in ensuring our strategic goals and priorities remain contemporary to the changing needs and priorities of the national biosecurity system.

The second WA RFA Annual Meeting of Officials took place on 9 February 2021. The meeting was attended by officials from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment; the WA Government Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA); and the WA Forest Products Commission (FPC).

Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods shipped between 1 September 2020 that arrive in Australian territory by 31 May 2021 inclusive).

All clients required to use the department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system during this planned maintenance period.
