Who does this notice affect?

Due to the escalation of COVID-19 measures in the state of Victoria - all industry stakeholders involved in exports.

Purpose

The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) has received enquiries about how it is approaching its staffing, regulatory and operational obligations in relation to regulating export establishments and the risks posed by the COVID 19 outbreak.

This notice is of interest to importers and their customs brokers of nursery stock, including tissue cultures, budwood, cuttings and rooted plants.

What will change?

The purpose of this notification is to advise stakeholders that the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment (the department) is taking further actions to manage the risk of the bacterial pathogen, Xylella in imported nursery stock.

113-2020 – Expansion of the class 19.2 automatic entry processing for commodities (AEPCOMM) approved arrangement

Biosecurity industry participants and accredited persons operating under the department’s class 19.1 non-commodity for containerised cargo clearance (NCCC) & class 19.2 automatic entry processing for commodities (AEPCOMM) approved arrangements; continued biosecurity competency (CBC) providers and registered training organisations (RTOs).

112-2020 – Amendment to 107-2020 – Current list of countries able to meet Australia’s interim import conditions for uncooked prawns from 1 July 2020

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to importers of uncooked prawns and associated industry participants and retailers.

What has changed?

From 1 July 2020, all uncooked prawns imported for human consumption must be deveined (removal of the digestive tract that remains along the dorsal ridge of each prawn to at least the last shell segment).

All importers of plants, cats and/or dogs who will be required to use the Post Entry Biosecurity System during this planned outage.

Information

Due to system maintenance, the Post Entry Biosecurity System will be unavailable from 23:00 Friday 10 July to 00:00 Saturday 11 July 2020 (AEST).

Action

Clients are advised to await the completion of this maintenance period before attempting to access this service.

Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry

The Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry have been endorsed by agriculture ministers from all states and territories.

The poultry standards were finalised by an Independent Poultry Panel commissioned by all agriculture ministers. The standards are the culmination of an extensive stakeholder and public consultation process and underpinned by contemporary animal welfare science.

States and territories are responsible for implementing the poultry standards.
