96-2020 – Important notice for businesses and individuals (customers) affected by natural disasters or COVID-19

Who does this notice affect?

All importers and exporters (including Customs Brokers) who receive services from the department and have outstanding debts on their account.

What has changed?

The department recognises that some customers may be affected by recent natural disasters or COVID-19. These customers may be facing financial hardship and experience difficulties in paying overdue debts.

Exporters wanting to receive a quota certificate under the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) for export of eligible goods to Indonesia, must use one of the below forms when applying to the department’s Quota Administration Unit. Eligible goods include carrots, citrus, feed grains, live male cattle, or potatoes.

95-2020 – Extended: temporary changes to import certificate requirements for fresh produce, cut flowers, plants and other imported plant-based commodities

Who does this notice affect?

Importers of horticultural fresh produce, cut flowers, plants and other plant-based commodities.

This temporary change is relevant to the use of original paper phytosanitary certificates (PCs). It does not apply to countries that already provide original PCs in electronic format, for example, ePhytos or eCerts.

Background

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the movement of airfreight and courier mail in multiple countries.

Developing industry and supporting local growers – Northern Territory Farmers Association

Through grant funding made available by the Agricultural Competitiveness White Paper, the Northern Territory Farmers Association produced a series of online communication products to raise awareness of biosecurity threats and to promote practical measures to mitigate risks.

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to importers of uncooked prawns and associated industry participants and retailers.

What has changed?

From 1 July 2020, all uncooked prawns imported for human consumption must be deveined (removal of the digestive tract that remains along the dorsal ridge of each prawn to at least the last shell segment).

Who does this notice affect?

All importers and customs brokers who will be required to lodge imported cargo documentation to the department for biosecurity assessment during this planned outage.

All importers of plants, cats and/or dogs who will be required to use the Post Entry Biosecurity System during this planned outage.

Information

Due to system maintenance, the Cargo Online Lodgement System and Post Entry Biosecurity System will be unavailable from 23:00 Thursday 25 June to 01:00 Friday 26 June 2020 (AEST).
