The boundaries defining the APLC area of operation were agreed upon by the Commissioners on the basis of where each species of locust was most likely to pose an interstate threat.

The following lists give the titles of all locust research papers published by past and present APLC staff from 2000 onwards. The first list includes all recent articles and reports finalised within the last four years.
The APLC conducts original research on various aspects of the biology and control of locusts. Many of these research projects are undertaken in collaboration with other organisations, including relevant faculties of Australian universities.
The Australian Plague Locust Commission (APLC) monitors the population status of the three pest locust species listed under its charter using a range of information sources, including surveys undertaken by APLC officers, light trap information and reports from the public and state agriculture authorities.
The APLC has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) for its locust control operations. An EMS is a management tool designed to help an organisation identify its environmental risks and improve its environmental performance.
