Maintaining good animal welfare outcomes in an emergency animal disease outbreak

In an emergency animal disease outbreak, it may be necessary to destroy infected and in-contact animals on-farm. Livestock depopulation methods are evolving, and animal welfare experts should assess any emerging methods before they’re used. We commissioned two independent evidence-based animal welfare reports on poultry and pig depopulation methods during an emergency animal disease response.

Who does this notice affect?

Approved arrangements operators, customs brokers, importers, manned depots, and freight forwarders who will be required to book and manage requests for import inspections using the Biosecurity Portal during this scheduled maintenance window.

Approved arrangements operators who will be required to view and/or update details of their Approved Arrangement via the Approve Arrangement Management Product (AAMP).

​​Biosecurity industry participants and accredited persons operating under the department’s approved arrangement class 19.1 non-commodity for containerised cargo clearance (NCCC) & approved arrangement class 19.2 automatic entry processing for commodities (AEPCOMM); Continued Biosecurity Competency (CBC) providers and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
