The Australian Government Departments of Agriculture and Water Resources, Health and Industry, Innovation and Science have commenced a review to examine the interaction between Australia’s food regulation system and the growing demand for Australian food exports.
The review is based on these influencing factors:
Our food regulatory system is designed to respond quickly to food safety incidents.
This includes reports or evidence of food tampering or adulteration.
Recent reports have raised issues about the adulteration of honey.
The department works with key stakeholders to develop food regulatory policy.
The government regulates the food industry so food is safe to eat and consumers can make informed choices about food.
