With just one month to go until ABARES Outlook 2026, preparations are ramping up for Australia’s premier forum on the future of agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
The conference - 3-4 March at Canberra’s Hotel Realm and online - brings together leading experts, industry voices and policymakers to examine the key forces shaping the sector and the opportunities on the horizon.
ABARES Executive Director Jared Greenville said this year’s theme, ‘Reset. Rethink. Regrow: Cultivating tomorrow’s opportunities’, invites us to pause, reassess and chart a renewed path for our sector.
“It reflects that we are operating in a world of climate variability and adaptation pressures, turbulent global markets, growing land-use competition, and shifting expectations from consumers and communities,” Dr Greenville said.
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Julie Collins will deliver the opening morning’s ministerial address, with Assistant Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Anthony Chisholm opening day two.
Dr Greenville said the 10 session program includes an exceptional lineup of internationally recognised speakers and presenters.
“We’re excited to welcome keynote speaker and United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation Chief Economist Dr Máximo Torero, who will join us in person,” Dr Greenville said.
“His global perspectives will help shape the discussions that will follow.”
Delegates will also be able to hear directly from ABARES analysts, who will provide the medium-term outlook for the sector.
Other program highlights include discussions on the future of food security in Australia, how we can unlock greater productivity through innovation, and navigating agriculture’s social licence.
Former BBC Host and Nuffield Scholar Claire Taylor will MC the conference, with the online live broadcast featuring the commentary of Episode3 commodity market analysts Andrew Whitelaw and Matt Dalgleish.
