About this response
On 24 February 2022, the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Legislation Committee tabled its report into the current state of meat category branding in Australia, Don’t mince words: definitions of meat and other animal products.
The report makes 9 recommendations, the key recommendation being to establish a mandatory regulatory framework for the labelling of plant-based protein products.
The Government Response was tabled in the Senate on 23 April 2026.
