The Commonwealth fisheries resource sharing framework outlines the government’s approach to sharing fisheries resources across commercial, recreational, and Indigenous fishing sectors and between the Commonwealth and the states and the Northern Territory.
The framework provides a principles-based approach to creating resource sharing arrangements to manage access and allocation issues in Commonwealth fisheries.

History
Addressing resource sharing has been a government priority for some time. In 2019, the Australian Government committed to developing a Commonwealth fisheries resource sharing framework. The framework was developed in consultation with fishing stakeholders, state and Northern Territory fisheries agencies, and experts.
