Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement second five-yearly review

It is a requirement of clause 45 of the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) that a review of its implementation is undertaken every five years. The purpose of the review is to assess progress against the milestones and commitments in the Tasmanian RFA.

Scoping Agreement

The Tasmanian RFA second five-yearly review formally commenced in December 2006 with the signing of the Scoping Agreement. The Scoping Agreement set out the arrangements agreed by the Tasmanian and Australian governments for undertaking the review.

Implementation Report and public consultation period

In accordance with the Scoping Agreement, a report on implementing the Tasmanian RFA was prepared by the Tasmanian and Australian governments, the Implementation of the Tasmanian Regional Forest Agreement 2002-2007 PDF [872 KB, 194 pages] report. The Implementation Report details the extent to which milestones and commitments in the Tasmanian RFA have been met for the reporting period 2002-2007.

Stakeholders and members of the community had the opportunity to comment on the Implementation Report and the Sustainability Indicators for Tasmanian Forests 2001-2006 PDF [1.46 MB, 334 pages] report for a seven-week period, from 19 May 2007 to 23 July 2007. During the review process, 27 submissions were received commenting on the Implementation Report and the Sustainability Indicators Report.

Independent Reviewer’s report

In June 2007, Mr John Ramsay was appointed by the governments to review the Implementation Report, the Sustainability Indicators Report, as well as the 27 submissions received as part of the review. In February 2008, Mr Ramsay provided his report to the governments, which includes a summary of issues raised in the submissions.
