Dr Michele Allan AO, the independent reviewer of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Biosecurity (IGAB) issued a discussion paper for public consultation seeking feedback from Australian biosecurity stakeholders on potential improvements to the IGAB
The public consultation was hosted on the department's Have your say consultation hub from Thursday 15 August 2024 for 5 weeks. Input was received from a range of participants in the national biosecurity system including governments, agricultural industries, environmental groups, First Nations groups and community members.
Throughout the 2024 review, additional targeted consultation occurred with key stakeholders and other interested parties.
Feedback and submissions received during the consultation phase informed the development of Dr Allan’s final report and accompanying recommendations, which were submitted to agriculture ministers on 22 January 2025. The report has since been reviewed by agriculture ministers and a joint government response has been developed.
The final report is now available and updates regarding the implementation of the recommendations will be provided as they become available.
