Further to MAA2013-03, the Department of Agriculture (the department) provides the following update on the status of equivalence negotiations with the Republic of Korea in relation to new requirements being implemented on 1 January 2014 for the import into Korea of processed and semi processed certified organic products:

The department has confirmed that product shipped on or before 31 December 2013 and arriving into Korea after 1 January 2014 may be labelled as organic in accordance with the current labelling system.

The department also understands that, pending equivalence determination, the following list of processed foods may continue to be exported to Korea on or after 1 January 2014 in accordance with the current requirements. However, the department strongly encourages exporters to verify import requirements for all organic goods with their importers prior to export.

For all other processed and semi-processed products, exporters are reminded that any organic producer or certifying organisation that wishes to export processed and semi processed organic food to Korea on or after 1 January 2014 is required to be approved by the Korean Government through an individual (commercial level) conformity assessment arrangement.
