Industry Advice Notice no. 2004/08: Update on EXDOC certification deadline by Taiwan - 1 July 2004

Date issued 2 June 2004

This advice is to remind Industry and AQIS staff that from the 1 July 2004 Taiwan will only accept EXDOC generated certification for horticulture and grain products.

Previous notification of this deadline has been distributed to industry and AQIS staff in Industry Advice Notices (IAN) No. 2003/14 and 2004/05.

Industry and AQIS staff are reminded of the following:

  1. Effective from the 1 July 2004 Taiwan will only accept EXDOC generated certification and all horticulture and grain products arriving in Taiwan from this date must be accompanied by EXDOC generated certification.

Exporters need to take into consideration the travel time involved for their consignments and consider if the consignment will arrive in Taiwan before the 1 July 2004, in which case manual export certification can accompany the consignment or after the 1 July 2004, in which case EXDOC generated export certification must accompany the consignment.
  2. Any issuance of manual export certification for horticulture and grain products arriving in Taiwan from the 1 July 2004 must have prior approval from the appropriate program in Canberra.
  3. Clients currently in the EXDOC Test environment are encouraged to actively test the electronic certification system with the view to be promoted to the EXDOC Production environment to meet the 1 July 2004 deadline or as soon as possible.
  4. Previous IANs detailed several options to enable exporters to obtain EXDOC generated certification, the third option being ‘create a Request for Permit (RFP) at a major AQIS office’. This option is only available to non-commercial exporters.

All commercial exporters who are unable to generate EXDOC certification for consignments arriving in Taiwan from the 1 July 2004 will have to make alternative arrangements through either a Freight Forwarder, Custom Agent or other Agent.

For further information horticulture and grain clients should contact the EXDOC Administrator (Grain/Horticulture) on telephone: 02 6272 5728 or e-mail Bev Beacham.
