Industry Advice Notice no. 2004/17: Indian Weed Seed List Update

Date issued 18 August 2004

India has revised their quarantine weed seed list for Australian commodities. The list of quarantine weed seeds list has been reduced from 61 to 33. Of the 33 listed weed seeds, it appears that 17 are listed in Australia and not in India. The revision is based on technical submissions made by BioSecurity Australia (BA) to the Indian Department of Agriculture and Cooperation.

All exports must be free, in inspected samples, of these weed seeds. India has given Australia permission to implement the revised weed seed list immediately. The Indian revision notification is likely to take approximately two weeks to pass this through their legislative processes before it becomes part of their legislation. Details of the updated legislation will be available from the Plant Quarantine Organisation of India webpage.
