2015-12 - Department of Agriculture – Protected industrial action

1 April 2015

Who does this notice affect?

Selective Department of Agriculture clients and stakeholders.

Background

The Department of Agriculture is in negotiation with staff on a new enterprise agreement.

The Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU) members within the department voted to undertake protected industrial action as authorised by Fair Work Commission. This may take the form of work stoppages, partial work bans or limitations.

The department will continue to operate during periods of industrial action to deliver services to our clients on a risk-managed basis while seeking to minimise disruption to your business.

On Thursday 2 April 2015, there will be a 30 minute stoppage of work from 10:30 am and 11:00 am local time.  Places where industrial action may occur include the department’s offices and at airports, mail centres, shipping ports, cruise vessel terminals.

Export meat inspection and certification is not affected by the above action.

In addition to this, from Friday 3 April 2015 to Monday 6 April 2015 inclusive, the department’s staff at international airports and cruise vessel terminals will be handing out information flyers in the form of an authorised CPSU statement to passengers.

The department does not expect the above action to cause significant disruption to our normal services and will continue to provide updates through our industry notices and on our website.

The department will advise clients and the community if they are likely to be affected by any disruption to our services. We will continue to work in good faith with the CPSU in negotiating a new enterprise agreement.
